Guide to Portland Golf Courses

Portland, Oregon is a golf lover's paradise. The city has a total of 15 golf courses, with seven of them being municipal courses. In addition, the surrounding area has another 49 courses. Some of the best courses in the area are within just a few miles of Piedmont Vacation Rental. In this article, we've listed a few of the most enjoyable nearby courses.

Heron Lakes Golf Club

Heron Lakes Golf Course is made up of two courses: Great Blue, and Greenback. Both were designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

The Great Blue Course is an 18-hole, par-72 course that has over 80 bunkers and numerous water hazards. Length is 6902 yards, and rating is 74.0. It is a challenging course for experienced golfers, but is still appropriate for beginners. The course features relatively small greens and rambling fairways.

The Greenback Course is also an 18-hole, par-72 course. Length is 6615 yards, and rating is 72.0. It has 86 bunkers and six ponds. The course is considered moderately difficult. It features a traditional design, with large greens and beautiful, tree-lined fairways.

Eastmoreland Golf Course

Established in 1917, Eastmoreland Golf Course is Portland's one of the oldest golf courses in Portland and the second oldest golf course in Oregon. Eastmoreland Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72.0 course. Length is 6529 yards, and rating is 71.0.

The course is surrounded by local gardens, and the area is populated by numerous birds, including wood ducks and great blue herons. Fairways are lined with trees, and the course has a number of natural hazards, including Crystal Springs Lake and Johnson Creek.

Due to recent improvements (removing some large trees), golfers of all skill levels will enjoy this course.

Rose City Golf Course

Rose City Golf Club, located in Northeast Portland, was established in 1923, making it the second oldest municipal course in Oregon. In fact, the clubhouse is in the National Register of Historic Places.

Rose City Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72.0 course. Length is 6520 yards, and rating is 71.9. The course has beautiful tree-lined, rolling fairways, with a number of interesting water hazards on the back nine. Greens are large and flat.

The Rose City course is one of the easiest courses to play in Portland, making it perfect for less skilled golfers. It is also quite affordable. While you're at the Rose City Golf Club, you can also stop by the onsite Rose City Grill, an excellent full-service restaurant and bar.

Colwood Golf Center

Colwood Golf Center is a 9-hole, par-27 course. Length is 1223 yards. (No rating.) The course covers 44 acres, and features large bent-grass greens. Each hole has two sets of tees, greens, and pin locations. (Each green is large enough to accommodate two pin locations.) The course is designed to accommodate all skill levels and to be fun for everyone involved.

Colwood Golf Center also has a practice course, driving range, indoor practice area, and an onsite bar and grill (Colwood Grill). In addition, golf lessons are offered for all ages. You can even take indoor golf lessons.

Finally, Colwood has a FootGolf course. FootGolf is a combination of soccer and golf. Basically, you try to get a soccer ball into the course's 21-inch diameter cups. Rules are similar to the rules of golf.
